The Johanneskirche auf Burg in Stein am Rhein is an architectural gem. It is the oldest and earliest-documented church in the Canton of Schaffhausen. The wall paintings in the choir, which date from the period just before 1420, are particularly fascinating. Thirty pictures in three cycles depict scenes from the Christianity’s salvation history and many of the motifs are unique in the whole of Switzerland.
