Fürstenau is located on a rocky spur nestled in the Domleschg cultural landscape. This small fortified town, first mentioned in a document dating to 1257, has survived virtually unchanged architecturally, since the 19th century. Despite events such as the fire of 1742, Fürstenau's medieval layout in concentric circles and its late Baroque residences are well preserved.
